Course Description:
HIPAA has created vast change in day-to-day health care in the last several decades. This course is based directly on the law itself. Because the law is densely written and, at times difficult to understand, this course uses several articles as well as condensing the crucial parts of the law that pertain to the practice of psychology so the practitioner can readily become compliant with the law and avoid the errors that are most commonly made.
Objectives:
1. Identify eight specific areas in which mental health professionals are likely to fail to be in compliance with HIPAA, how to rectify the problems, and protect the public.
2. List seven training procedures for staff to assure that patient files are protected.
